Many Vietnamese drink tea like their neighboring countries but the coffee culture is not small either. It’s not just the coffee, but how it is prepared that’s unique to Vietnam. Thick, creamy, dark-roasted and incredibly strong coffee is topped not with milk but sweetened condensed milk. The french brought coffee to Vietnam in the 19th century and now it is the second largest exporter of coffee (Brazil is first). Not all coffee is recommended for Vietnamese filter, only the dark-roasted type is used to get a thick brew. It can be served hot or cold.
Why we like it
This coffee filter (compared to others worldwide) is the best travel companion. We just added it to our travel bags. Also, Vietnamese coffee reminds us of Indian filter coffee. We tried it in various forms, egg coffee (yes it’s a thing here), coconut coffee and it tastes good every time.
