We absolutely love traditions and cultural rituals. During our stay, we had the privilege of visiting the homes of many locals (who became good friends). In our first visit, we were a bit confused when we were offered slippers at the entrance. Only when we saw this repeat itself in every home, we realized it was a common custom for guests to remove shoes when entering a Slovene house and in return the host offers guest slippers to them. Every household has multiple pairs in various sizes. Who would have thought the Slovenes share a custom with the Japanese? Now, the next time you find yourself in a Slovenian home, you know the right etiquette.

 

 

Why we like it

 

These slippers are nothing special to the locals. But we are all about things that are ordinary to locals but surprising to travelers. Not to mention this is a unique tradition especially for an European country.
