There is no limit on how much tea gets consumed in Turkey. Friends get together for a cup of tea, shopkeepers offer consumers as a sign of hospitality and it is offered to guests in every household. You would think the Turkish coffee is the national drink but tea is consumed just as much and an integral part of social life.
Turkish tea is always offered in little tulip-shaped glasses. You have to hold them by the rim to save your fingertips from burning because it's served boiling hot. These special slender waisted tea glasses whose curvy shape keeps the tea warm, also show the color of the tea. The glass usually rests on a small saucer. The tea glass is so important in Turkish life it is also used as a measurement in recipes.
Why we like it
We found the most traditional design that can be seen from road side to restaurants. The red lines on the saucer can’t go unnoticed at every street corner tea shop. A cup of tea served with turkish delight became such a comforting part of our lives while we were there that we almost forgot all about coffee.
